Community
Proud Contributors
Amherst Homes are proud of our contribution to the community. We have been involved with local causes and projects whenever possible for a number of years, and are always on the lookout for other ways to help.
Supporting Local Communities
We are the official sponsors of Saffron Walden Football Club and are proud to be one of Saffron Walden Carnival’s 8 Day Weekend Partners each year. We have also supported Saffron Walden Golf Club scratch and junior teams and played in charity matches to help raise funds. Uttlesford Foodbank is a local charity that does amazing work in our local community, never more so than during the Covid-19 pandemic and we endeavour to support them where we can throughout the year.
Passionate & Supportive
As we begin 2023 which would seem to be another year of challenge for all we will continue to support our local community as much as we can.
Amherst kicked off 2022 by again supporting our local Uttlesford Foodbank. Sophie the Manager and her amazing team of volunteers continue to do a great job helping to support our local community, which is needed now, more than ever. This summer saw the return of the Saffron Walden Carnival which we were again proud to sponsor and support along with other local businesses. We ended the year once again by sponsoring Saffron Hall and KD Theatre’s wonderful production of Robin Hood.
We have also given our time and support again in 2022 to Fairycroft House our local community centre and live entertainment venue by offering our services to create more space and which enabled them to increase their performance area.
Although 2020 & 2021 have proved to be strange and difficult years, we have still been able to support the local community.
For December 2021 Amherst Homes were proud sponsors of Saffron Hall and KD Theatre Production’s The Wizard of Oz here in Saffron Walden. The team had great fun when some of the cast paid a visit to our office.
During September 2021 Amherst Homes were happy to support Saffron Walden Football club and the opening of their new Community 3G AGP. Pictured are the Under 9 Reds Team. There has been ten years of background work, three years of #CommunityClub fundraising and six months of construction before the children finally got to play football on this wonderful new pitch. Tottenham Hotspur legend and FIFA World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles even cut the ribbon and scored the first ever goal on the pitch.
In January 2020 our team enjoyed a tour round our new development Redbank in Newport with a group of interested Sixth Form Students from local school, Joyce Frankland Academy. The students met and chatted about careers in property development and construction with our Chief Operating Officer, Scott McArthur, Sales Director Keri Wells and members of our on-site team and sub-contractors. We hope the opportunity gave them an insight into the development/construction industry and food for thought for their future careers!
Back in 2019 we decided to support our local Uttlesford Foodbank at Christmas and were overwhelmed by the response not just from our staff but from our sub-contractors and suppliers who supported our appeal with lots of fantastic food donations. Therefore, we are delighted to have been able to continue the relationship with Uttlesford Foodbank in 2020 by making another donation. The charity do an amazing job feeding those in need locally and really do help make a difference, never more so that during this pandemic.
During December 2020 rather than send out Christmas cards and gifts we decided to donate to Jimmy’s Cambridge a fantastic local charity that supports the homeless and rough sleepers in Cambridge. They work tirelessly 24/7, 365 days a year to give people somewhere to sleep and a roof over their heads.
Other local charitable involvements of recent years have included donations to Teens Unite, sponsoring Accuro’s Summer Jazz Picnic at Bridge End Gardens, where funds provided services to vulnerable children and adults, the Support for Sight’s 25th anniversary gala dinner and our continued support for Fairy Croft House, an amazing local community arts and media centre.
Other worthy causes in the UK and further afield which we’re equally passionate and supportive of are: The Children’s Society, Children with Cancer UK, Blue Smile, Keech Hospice and Chidobe Village Primary School in Zimbabwe.
